Flounders are featuring again this week, as anglers are targeting them in what seem to be out best season for them in many a year. The best Flounder of the season so far fell to the rod of Phil Mingo weighing in at a healthy 3lbs 12oz.

Father and daughter duo Andy and Kerrie Browning fished a Honiton SAC match with Kerrie taking second place with her two fish. This shows that long casting is not necessary to catch them, they can be found in only a few inches of water.

The top bait appears to be peeler crab but ragworms and lugworms are also taking their fair share. Other anglers getting amongst them this week include Saleem Ali Lee Kelland and Dan Hale.

Another Honiton SAC member, Barry Codling visited his local beach at Seaton and returned home with a superb whiting of 2lbs 1oz. Whiting are plentiful at the moment with the larger fish being caught from the shingle beaches to the East of the region.

Elsewhere from the shore, Chris Wagstaff travelled to the Bristol Channel, using fish and peeler crab cocktails on his hook, and had a fine session landing three Thornback Rays to 6lbs. Aaron Colhoun also managed to get amongst the Thornbacks from another Bristol Channel marks. Will Booth found a Codling eager to take his bait on a glorious sunny day, also to the East.

A few anglers have been out on the boats this week with Pete Gregory finding a new personal best Bass of 14lbs, which was, of course, returned. Bryz Auger once again found the Blonde Rays feeding and Malcolm Church got amongst the Pollack. I am getting reports from skippers out of Minehead that some big Cod are being caught, I am waiting for some from our area to land one.

Due to the changing Christmas deadlines for this paper, I am delaying the announcement of the December fish of the month winner until the next issue. The competition is kindly sponsored by Sidewinder Lures and Newbarn Angling Centre. Please send your reports and pictures to johnsherlockfish@gmail.com
