Bull Huss have been the target of many with Blackpool Sand one of the chosen venues, the pick of the fish being the two caught by Gary Knott weighing in at 9lbs 8oz and 8lbs, with Tom Stebbens nabbing a fish of 7lbs 2oz.
The local estuaries continue to produce some nice fish with the best Flounder of the week going to Brixham’s Jason Upham with other nice fish to the rods of Bonzo Barge and Jack Bro.
On the Rays were Dan Hale and Matthew Alexander with Thornback’s and, Lewis Mason who travelled to the Bristol Channel for a Small-eyed Ray. Brandon Daw managed a Bass of 5lbs 9oz, which was returned in line with the current regulations.
Cod are often popular during colder months and Chesil Beach is often the perfect venue, with David Mordecai finding three fish on his visit. Brian Stewie and Matthew Alexander also got amongst the action with Matthew landing a 4lb fish on a Cox and Rawle loop rig baited with squid and lug bait.
Newton Abbot’s Cormorant SAC fished a shore competition on Exmouth seafront with their members landing five Flounders, the winner being Mike Setherton with his fish of 1lb 12oz.
Mike Spiller fished the Bristol Channel in search of Cod but only managed to find Thornback Rays, Congers and Dogfish. David Mordecai fished from a private boat over several inshore marks and found Pollack eager to take his lures. Curtis England, meanwhile, was delighted with his first Conger eel.
Spring Ponds held their latest competition in wet and windy conditions with the winning weight of 20lbs 12 oz being caught by John Thompson, with Steve Hayman and Gary Dennis coming next. Gary caught some superb silver fish amongst his Carp. Successful method on the day was pellet fished beneath the pole.
With several competition taking place over the next couple of weeks, I am expecting plenty more good fish to be caught.
