While the rest of the country watched Djokovic take the Wimbledon championship for a record breaking 20 grand slam titles, Sidmouth players were battling to find their own stars on what was a super Sunday of tennis.
Indeed, one of the highlights of the afternoon's racquet fest was the exhibition match between Men's Devon Singles' champion Alfie Flatters and our talented Spanish import, Guillermo Rodriguez. The hard hitting and sweet volley displays wouldn't have been out of place on a Wimbledon court and certainly added an international flavour to the day.
In the main Finals' competitions, it was assistant coach and Men's A captain Greg Shipp and his partner Marjory Anne Bromhead, who proved too strong for young Jess Wiltshire and Bob Hefill to take the Mixed Doubles' title.
Sabby overcame Isabelle in an extremely tight match, which went to a championship tie-break to clinch the Under-18 Girls' Singles' trophy. Evie won the Under-14 Girls final, beating Anna. and to conclude the afternoon the Ladies' Doubles went to Viv Bess and Alison Stevens, who overcame An Van Hecke and Marjory Anne Bromhead... well, it would have been rude for Marjory Anne to take another title.
Big congratulations to all the finalists and winners with thanks to head coach Sue Wiltshire and her team for managing such a busy and successful day.
