Three games into the new season and it's a great start for Exeter City who, having drawn the first game at Darlington, lost the second against the run of play, at home to Shrewsbury, and finally last Saturday winning away 1-0 against Bournemouth, who last season were playing in League One.

It's still very early days but, having played two of the fancied sides and a former League One team, it's all looking very promising for the Grecians.

The win on Saturday was the first in the Football League in five years and around 1,200 travelling Grecian fans were at Dean Court to celebrate.

The winning goal came from Grecians' midfielder Ryan Harley, who struck a low left-footed shot past the Cherries' goalkeeper Ryan Pryce after 68 minutes.

It was a goal similar to that scored in the 4-1 win in the Torquay play-off semi-final, with a pass from Rob Edwards in midfield and Ryan making a diagonal strike from just outside the penalty box on the left hand side.

The play saw Exeter do the early pressing with Bournemouth unable to control the game from midfield.

Exeter were unlucky not to go in in front before half time after a couple of half chances were missed by the hard working Adam Stansfield.

The second half brought more of the same with the Grecians bossing the play, with some slick passing, and the Cherries continuing with their fairly un-ambitious single striker formation.

After the game, Paul Tisdale said: "It was good to get the result and a relief in some ways, because you want to get the first win out of the way. Bournemouth is a difficult place to come and win and I don't think many teams will achieve what we did. I like to let my players express themselves on the pitch, and we were keeping it short and playing some nice stuff once we got going. I'm delighted for Ryan, because he showed in the last few weeks he is capable of that, and it was a good finish."

This Saturday, August 30, Exeter are home to Luton and this will be the first of three home games in a row - a perfect time to start the winning run after the fine performance at Bournemouth. Luton sit at the bottom of the table, as they have a 30-point deduction to overcome, and have also won, drawn and lost in their first three games of the season.

The Hatters started the League Two season on minus 30 points, having been docked 10 after being found guilty of 15 charges of misconduct by the Football Association, and then a further 20 from the Football League for being unable to secure a company voluntary arrangement to exit administration.

Luton manager Mick Harford is confident he has assembled a squad good enough to help Luton sensationally survive relegation from the Football League. He told the club's official website: "I'm delighted. I wanted a blend of youth and experience so we have players who can develop their talents with us alongside players who know what it takes. We know the task that has been set for us and every player joining knows that, come May, they will be legends and part of football folklore. "Before we get there, though, we've succeeded in putting together a group of players that will fight tooth and nail for every point."

The following Tuesday, September 1, City play at home in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, meeting Shrewsbury Town. Kick off will be at 7.45 pm, and will be a chance for the Grecians to overcome the 1-0 loss at the hands of the promotion favourites who have won all three of their league games to date.

The following Saturday, the Grecians welcome Accrington Stanley to St James Park. Another key date for your diary is Monday, September 8, when three City players - Ben Watson, Craig McAllister and Jack Oberstellar - visit the East Devon Grecians in the War Memorial Club, in Sidmouth. The evening will include a quiz with teams of four, at £10 a team. The winning team will receive, as a prize, the training kit sponsorship of one of the City players. Local fans thoroughly enjoyed the win at Bournemouth but are fully aware that we are not the finished article yet.

Luton will be a formidable test for lots of reasons, and no doubt Paul Tisdale will have his players sufficiently prepared for a battle with a team that is already fighting for its League status.

The lack of goals from any of the strikers is still an issue, but it is still early days.

There is no doubt whatsoever though that City are back, and back with style.

The game on Saturday could well be a real humdinger, and the red army will be ready. So why wouldn't you want to be there? Come on you Reds!
