Sidmouth and Ottery Hockey Club (SOHC) ladies’ first team continued their winning ways with a 3-1 win at Newton Abbot.

What made this latest success all the more impressive was that it was achieved in very blustery conditions on a freshly laid, extra bouncy pitch.

The first half was fairly evenly matched with some great breaks from Jasmine Scott, Alice Please and Frankie Forsyth.

The centre midfield trio of Hannah Peters, Rachel Ward and Katie Dean combined well to keep the shackles on the home side’s key players.

The opening goal came from a slick break and fine cross from Alice Pease that was chipped beyond the goalkeeper by Aimee Keast.

The home side hit back and, after a number of terrific saves from Millie Guy in the SOHC goal, the hosts levelled to send the teams into the break on level terms.

SOHC made a confident start to the second half. Megan Thompson-Summers, Please and Forsyth got the better of the home defence and the lead was regained with a goal from Jasmine Scott.

Behind for the second time, Newton Abbot launched a ferocious reply, but were kept at arm’s length by the solid defensive unit of Lizzie Nancekivell, Naomi Gammon, Rebecca Bond and Annie Clay, in front of the excellent Millie Guy in goal.

The points were sealed inside the final 10 minutes with a wonderful goal from Thompson-Summers.

? The SOHC ladies’ third team were 3-2 winners when they travelled to Torquay.

It took the team a little while to become accustomed to the brand new bouncy surface at Torquay and, whilst coming to terms with the surface, they fell two goals down!

Once they had settled into the contest, with Izzy Beech and Ella Davies impressing down the wings, it was no surprise when Mia Holder provided the assist for Ella Davies to get a goal back for SOHC and half-time arrived with the home side holding a one-goal advantage.

Torquay started the second half on the front foot, but the SOHC defence stood firm with Lydia Gammon putting in some fierce tackles and Jan Moore showing real quality with her distribution.

SOHC began to take charge and dominated possession to such a degree that they scored twice more to take the points.

Hannah Trude scored both the goals, one of them with a lift hit and the other fashioned for her by Mia Hodder.

The home side hit back, but were denied further goals by some splendid goalkeeping from Amy Davies.

Karhys Flemmington impressed with some excellent control and shooting, but the SOHC Player of the Match award was shared by Mia Hodder and Hannah Trude.
