Exeter Storm, with a number of Sidmouth and East Devon-based players in the side, took on a London Lynx side sitting second in the Volleyball National League table.

However, pre-match thoughts that Storm might be a tad overawed by their lofty opponents were quickly dispelled as the Exeter side contested the first set with real confidence and Francis Oliver dominated the net early on and showed London that this was not going to be an easy match for them!

Excellent teamwork saw the set finish 25-16 in favour of Storm. Exeter expected a comeback and good link up-play between Adam Adie, Ashleigh Harry and Sam Oldfield kept Storm in the following sets, but London managed to pull away enough to win the second and third sets, 25-20.

The fourth set saw Storm go behind twice, but a few key blocks from Rob Young and excellent court coverage by the whole team saw two hard-fought comebacks, which allowed Exeter a chance to control the pace in the final stages.

Storm took the match into a fifth set after a power hit from Toby Tapp.

Storm stayed calm and focused on every point in the fifth set and, with everyone playing their part, Adam was given the chance to serve out the set to earn a well-deserved victory.

Excellent passing from Ritto allowed the use of the middles and the added experience of Vlad allowed the team to keep composed and fresh throughout those vital points.
