Sidmouth Town Reserves eased their way into the quarter-finals of the Devon Senior Cup after a 4-1 success at Thorverton.

On a heavy pitch in Mid Devon, the home side made a bright start and all the early problems were for the Town defence.

The visitors looked lethargic and it was no real surprise that they shipped an early chance, conceding a penalty that was despatched giving Town goalkeeper Rob Gluckowski no chance.

For the remainder of the half Town toiled away with no clear cut chances being made at either end.

During the break the Town management let the players know they were under performing and the message clearly got across as they were improved throughout the second half.

The catalyst for the change came from Ferenc Bodor, who clearly decided he was going to change the game in the way that only he can!

His first move was the pick out Aidy Parr at the near post with a terrific pass and Parr made no mistake to level things up at 1-1.

Just two minutes after equalising, Town were in font and again Bodor involved as he applied a polished finish to an excellent team move.

The lead was doubled when a Bodor free-kick could only be parried by the home glovesman and, when the ball fell to Ben Goodier he rifled it into the top corner of the net.

Parr rounded off the scoring with his second. Ben Miller, Ben Burrows, Goodier and Bodor, all had efforts saved as Town continued to impress – and dominate – through to the final whistle.

Town joint boss Paddy Thomas said: “The home side will no doubt feel a little hard done by with the score not giving a true reflection of the game.

“As you progress up the leagues taking your chances proves to be the major difference between sides and we basically kept Thorverton quiet on that front”

He continued: “Looking at the squad we have players who are not performing at their best. As a group they are an honest bunch and the spirit is there, but individually they need to realise if they apply themselves then this season could be one that serves up something special.”

Next up for the Town second string is a Saturday (December 9) visit to Macron League One table-toppers University (2.15pm).
