The Upper Crust Monday Stableford had a good entry as it was a Bank Holiday Monday but disappointingly, the weather was poor, writes John Barnard.

For most of the day, a heavy sea mist lay across the course, sometimes making the competition almost unplayable.

Andy Mills didn’t let this affect him though as he shot an excellent 41 points.

Eight pars and a birdie off his handicap of sixteen was impressive play and meant a handicap reduction.

In second place was David Pepperell, in the prizes twice in three days with 39 points this time. He is probably a little frustrated though as he had a great start, three birdies and a number of pars in the first 14 holes.

However, four consecutive bogies over the final holes meant a disappointing finish.

Steve Crabb’s round was the opposite. He scored 38 points but two birdies on the back nine and a number of pars were only undone a little by a ‘no score’ on the 15th.

John Jones leads the eclectic with 51.1 closely followed by Kym White on 51.7. Steve Crabb and Mark Laird are a few shots back on 54.4.

Neil Holland leads the birdie count by four.
