The second of two point-to point meetings to take place at the popular Upcott Cross course has attracted a massive 138 entries, where the Dulverton West host their meeting this coming Bank Holiday Monday (May 29), writes Donna Harris.

With two pony races heading up the action at noon, followed by the main seven race card at 1pm, this is sure to be a another fabulous family day out.

Penbode Vets sponsor the opening Confined race which could be between the two talented recent winning mares Fishy Story from the Stuart Sampson team, and Follow The Paint who would be a popular family win for the John Heard camp. Rockanrolldixie should not be left out of the equation with the Dean Summersby team sending winners out every weekend.

The Dodson & Horrell-sponsored Men’s Open race has attracted good quality entries which include recent winners Beat The Tide and Sacre Toi, but both would need to defy carrying top weight, as would Universal Soldier who also holds an entry in the Anglo-Irish event this Friday. It may be worth selecting Billy Merriott, having won well recently at the Cotley meeting and seems to have taken to his switch back to Pointing.

River Myth is an entry which stands out in the Coodes Solicitors-sponsored Restricted race if none the worse for being brought down at the second fence at Trebudannon. The two Pauling Geering-trained entries Bricks and Beams along with Eddies Pearl are two other suggestions in the Restricted race, both having had good recent wins.

Simpkins Edwards sponsor the Ladies Open which looks a cracking race in store, with multiple winners Aikideau for the Jack Barber team, Spencer Moon out of Kieran Price yard and Chosen Lucky for the inform Dean Summersby team among the 18 entries.

The Club Members for Novice rider’s race is sponsored by Langdon Transport Ltd, this has 20 entries of which Moscow Prices stands out having already scored a seasons hat-trick for jockey Lucy Mager. Sacre Toi is another outside raider with form who could runaway with the spoils, unless the John Heard team can steal this with Follow The Paint.

The Open Maiden two mile four-furlong race has 26 entered and could well be divided on the day, those catching the eye are debutant Hugo Horse if conditions suit, with trainer Jack Barber having an excellent strike rate with young maiden horses, recent runner up Baltazar du Seuil and Tucks Bergin are other suggestions that could also go close.

Finally up is the PRJ Engineering Open Maiden race which has attracted 28 entries, again Hugo Horse could be high in the betting, along with recent runner up Robin Longstride, Tree Sparrow and Tucks Bergin.

On course facilities include hot food and refreshments, bar, bookies and many trade stands.

Entrance to the course is £10 per person up to a max of £30 per car. Children under 16 free. Dogs on leads welcome.

Course is located two miles south of Halwill Junction, off A3079 – EX21 5AE
