Sidmouth Warriors Under-13s were 3-1 winners when they entertained Countess Wear Dynamoes at Sidford.

Warriors began well and dominated long periods of the first half. However, for all their ball possession it was not they who scored first for, somewhat against the run of play, the visiting side took a surprise lead with what was their only attack of the first half!

One thing this Warriors team sports in abundance is self-belief and resilience and both came to the fore in a swift – and clinical – response to falling behind and it was soon all square with Stan Richardson netting.

During the break the Warriors coaching staff urged the players to ‘keep doing what you have been doing’.

However, despite clearly listening to the words of wisdom and making a bright start to the second half, the first 15 minutes flashed by with plenty of chances being created, but none were taken!

This helped the visitors grow in confidence and it needed some strong, organised and disciplined defending from Alex Bennet, Samuel Rice and Corey Mutter, to deny the Exeter side a second goal.

When a penalty was spurned by Warriors it looked like being ‘one of those days’ until, in a lightning-quick counter attack, Benedict Teague found himself with time and space to drill the ball home and give Warriors a 2-1 lead.

Shortly after Tim Goody rifled the ball home to complete the scoring and send another large gathering of home support away happy!
