Sidmouth Bowling Club were delighted to have such wonderful weather to play the ladies’ Captain’s Day match last Friday.

It was sunshine and smiles all the way.

This year’s ladies’ captain, Susie Bonnell, fielded a team on four rinks against her vice-captain, Karen Hollingdale.

With the captain’s team sporting very colourful Hawaiian garlands and the vice-captain’s team wearing bright tops and rosettes, there was a distinct party feel to the match.

It was great to get such a good turnout - 32 of the 40 available lady players!

It was a first for Sidmouth ladies, as the men’s outdoor committee had suggested that they prepare and serve the bowlers’ tea and they did a fantastic job too!

The trouble is they were so good that we’re sure they will get the job again - and again!

The ladies’ captain had invited guests to her tea and it was lovely to hear lots of chatter and laughter from them.

There may have been many changes in the world of bowls since some of the honoured guests began bowling - but we all share in our passion and pleasure for the game.

Well, there had to be a winner and a loser and, sadly, it was the Vice-Captain’s teams who won the day this time.

It’s been a busy season with lots to celebrate - the captain still has six weeks to go before the closing drive and the last of the summer bowls, so let’s hope for the good weather to continue and many more joyful days of outdoor bowling.
