The eighth round of the Livery Dole Mitsubishi Winter League 2015-16 was finally played last Sunday, writes John Barnard.

The wet weather has wreaked havoc on the last few Sunday morning competitions.

Everyone was pleased to be out playing again and the format was a three-man Texas Scramble so a quick, social form of golf. The winners were Craig Melluish, Chris (CM) Roberts and Sean Murphy who scored a medal round of 54.6, so around 11 under par.

The playing conditions weren’t easy. Although they didn’t drop any shots, they only picked up one birdie, but due to the new, 20 per cent of combined handicap rules, they were given 10.4 shots which helped ensure their win

In second place was David Cowler, Steve Channing and Martin Crockett, one shot back with 55.4.

They only got eight shots with their combined handicap but managed a slightly better gross score. In third place were Ken Mylne, Mike Davis and Phil Spencer with 56.8

The winter league table is very close currently, Jeremy Holden is now the leader of the winter table on 19 points, two ahead of graham Davies and Mark Thomas.

This Sunday (January 24), is the new captain’s Drive In day, preceded by a Texas Scramble that is not part of the Winter League.

There are still a few slots available so if Sidmouth members haven’t got their name on the start sheet, contact the club professional as soon as possible.
