Sidmouth Town saw their season end in disappointment with a 2-1 defeat to Feniton in a Morrison Bell Cup semi-final played at Washbrook Meadow, Ottery St Mary.

The Vikings served up a 90-performance not too dissimilar to their entire season!

They were well below par for the first half of the contest, but then got their act together after a half-time talk with an angry boss Josh Stunell, before proceeding to deliver some of their best football of the campaign in the second half!

Fresha League Feniton went a goal up in the first half through Danny Lewis and the Town boss was delighted to get his charges in at the break just the one goal behind!

He said: “We were woeful and I told the lads as much. I also told them that, to a man, they had ten minutes to sort their collective act out or there’d be a triple substitution in the 55 th minute!

“To be fair to the lads they replied in shovel loads and really took the game to Feniton. How we lost that one, given the way we performed in the second period remains a mystery to me. We created chance after chance and even spurned a last gasp spot kick. But that’s football and the saddest bit about it is that, as good as we were in the second half, that’s our lot now. However, that might play in our favour as I saw in the final game the very worst, and possibly the very best, that this current group of Sidmouth Town players can dish up. I now have the summer to mull over things to see just what we do in pre-season and indeed the next campaign.”

Aaron Doble levelled things up in the second period before the game was won with what Town followers will feel was a very ‘preventable’ goal. The defence went to sleep at a corner and the poor marking left Scott Baxter to head Feniton into the final.

Stunell said: “It’s a shame that the season ends like that. It was a case of a very bitter sweet ending to our campaign, but that probably best sums up how things have gone this term. Now it’s time for a good rest before bouncing back to do it all again in July with pre-season.
