SOHC ladies first team gave a good account of themselves before slipping to a 4-1 defeat at the hands of a slick Old Bristolians side.
Having beaten ECVH 1-0 the week before coach Gus McVey and captain Maisie Pritchard, without a number of players, combined knowledge and skills to put a side out to take on Old Bristolians at there home base in Bristol.
As it was a young side took to the pitch with Hayley Delasalle I goal and experienced Ellie Marok and the evergreen Karen Dutton in attack.
The game opened at good pace and both sides fashioned, and spurned, chances to open the scoring. It was the home side that opened the scoring with a confident 10th minute move.
Sidmouth and Ottery responded well with the skills of Phoebe Roberts and Frankie Elliott coming to the fore. However, despite plenty of effort and enterprise no further goals were scored and half-time arrived with the one goal between the sides.
The home side began the second half very well and quickly scored three more goals.
With seven minutes remaining SOHC put together a fine move that led to a drive from Elly Marok gaining her side a corner.
After a great strike from Dutton, Marok managed to get a touch on the ball deflecting it passed the goalkeeper to give the visitors a goal that their contribution to a fine game warranted.
Coach McVey said post match: “I am so proud of each and everyone of the players. They delivered individually and collectively with real hear and passion. It was clear they were never overawed and felt they could win the game. They simply refused to give up!”
This Saturday the team are back in action with a game against Clevedon ladies at Sidmouth with pushback being at noon.
Supporters are always made very welcome at the clubs matches.
