Former Sidmouth captain Ted Rockey presented ‘The Ted Rockey Foursomes Knockout’ which was first played for in 1980, writes Chris Roberts.

This year final was contended by Jonathan Lee and Mark Thomas against Steve Milton and Simon Knowles.

With Knowles and Milton receiving shots the clubs two big names would have to be on there top game and requiring meticulous preparation before the final.

True to form Jonathan and Mark set about this task with their normal gusto to be standing on the first tee in fighting-fit condition.

As the day unfolded it became apparent that the large glass of port Mark had to settle his nerves was not helping!

As the match continued Simon and Steve where taking full advantage of their opponents ‘nerves’.

However, it seemed the nerves might be settling when Mark hit his drive to the centre of the par four tenth green to launch a possible fight back!

Simon also reached the green of the tee – but in his case unfortunately the eighth!

Mark and Jonathan looked set to get the match back on terms, but up stepped Steve (Seve) Milton to strike his approach shot to the heart of the 10th green to apply a little bit of pressure.

It was Jonathan to putt first, unfortunately missing the eagle, and giving Simon a putt for the birdie, but he also failed, although Simons putt was conceded for the four!

Up step Mark to tap in the short putt (which seems to be growing in length)! To every ones disbelief it missed this three putt seemed to be the turning point within the match as Steve and Simon pushed on to a five-and-four victory.
