The South West of England Mid-Amateur Championship for the Dartmoor Trophy was played at Woodbury Park last Thursday for those over the age of 35, writes John Johnson.
Former winner, Neil Holland, finished in a disappointing 16th place after rounds of 76 and 77, nine shots behind the winner, Richard Ward from Dainton Park.
The oldest player in the field, Mark Thomas, finished a creditable 34th out of 63 after rounds of 83 and 78.
The other Sidmouth entrant, Jonathan Lee, withdrew at the last minute through injury suffered at pre-season rugby training.
