Sidmouth Golf Club stages the first Macmillan Cancer Support, Sidmouth Golf Charity Day
Macmillan Cancer Support, Sidmouth held their first Golf Charity Day on July 4, at Sidmouth Golf Club organized by Sue Gunston and her colleagues from the charity.
The competition format was a stableford four-ball event with the best two scored to count.
Teams took part from Devon and Somerset and there were many local players involved also.
The event was sponsored by local businesses and individuals, who sponsored 17 holes and the ‘Halfway House’.
There was a field of 76 with the weather being kind to players until the last half-hour of the event which meant the last few out did get a little wet!
The event raised £2500 which was a fantastic result for The Macmillan Cancer Support
The winners were ‘The Senior Moments’ team of Nigel Sharp, John Bainbridge, Mark Laird and Vernon Ruffle with a score of 80points.
Second place went to the ‘Tea Timers’ who comprised Liz Chance, Sheila Skittrall, Angela Coles and Penny Ashby with a score of 79points.
Third were the ‘Also Rans’ team who included Mike Dommett, Pete Northcott, Paul Murphy and Barry Venn with a score of 77. Their final place was claimed via countback.
The organisers of the event would like to thank all who participated, the sponsors, and everyone who helped make this such a successful day.
Special thanks are also reserved for all at Sidmouth Golf Club for providing the event with such a great venue.
