Sidmouth youngster Harvey Sargent was the stand-out contributor to the Under-15s 27-run Bradleys East Devon Youth League win at Bradninch.
The youngster, who proved to be such a big hit on the Devon Under-15 tour to South Africa earlier this year when he hit back-to-back centuries, claimed six wickets for six runs after earlier scoring a solid 32 in his side’s total of 110-4.
The skipper won the toss, opted to bat and opened with Emily Dodds who was bowled for five in the fifth over. This brought Toby Pugsley to the wicket and he and skipper Sergent added 59 before Sergent was run out by a direct hit departing for a 50-ball 32. Pugsley went next, also to a run-out. He also faced 50 balls for his knock of 37.
Jack Emmott (12) was the only other Sidmouth batter to lose his wicket with the not out batsmen at the close being Finlay Richards (0) and Freddie Wheeler (5).
The Bradninch reply was looking on course at 63-2 after 11 overs when Sergent introduced himself to the attack and promptly claimed six wickets for six runs in 3.5 overs. His first two overs were both double wicket maidens and next time he bowls in an Under-15 game he will, be on a hat-trick as he claimed the last two wickets with the final two deliveries of the contest as Bradninch were dismissed for 83 in the 20th and final over.
Sidmouth could only muster eight players for the game and much credit should go to hosts Bradninch for providing them with three fielders for the visitors spell in the field.
