Another season has drawn to an end for the Sidmouth Cricket Club colts section, writes Rob Fowler.

It was certainly a season of real achievement all launched by what was a record turnout at the Registration Evening back in early May when 120 youngsters signed up to be coached and play for the club during the 2013 campaign.

There were teams in the Bradleys East Devon Youth League in eight age groups with girls and boys playing.

The Under-11 girls were successful in the Lady Taverners Cup at Chagford and they now go on to represent Devon in the County Cup.

The Under-13 girls reached the final in the Lady Taverners Cup at West Buckland.

The Under-11 boys won the League Cup and the Under-12s set a new best mark winning league and cup to ad to their previous year’s double success and they are now unbeaten for two complete season’s

The Under-13s reached their League Cup final, but overall, the most pleasing aspect of the season was the number of girls playing cricket, on merit, in the boy’s teams, which speaks volumes for the talent coming through and the quality of coaching.

Thanks must be lauded onto the coaches who consistently give up their time each Friday night to help with the coaching.

Big thanks are also due to the team managers for all their work organising teams. The unseen work of welfare officer Lyne Whitehall and colts admin office Lorraine Fowler is also very much appreciated.
