Sidmouth skipper Will Murray has issued a rallying call to his side with regard to what he feels is required for the Fortfield men to retain the Francis Clark Devon League title, writes Stephen Birley.

After a three wicket defeat at Exmouth last Saturday Murray concedes that for his team to be crowned champions once more they must now win each one of their remaining seven matches.

He says: “It’s win or bust from here. Our salvation could come in the fact that Bovey Tracey and Exmouth have still to play each other and they can’t both win that one! This season’s top flight is throwing up some most unpredictable results and I am sure there will be more between now and the end of the season. What we need to do is win all our games and hope that that is sufficient.”

Sidmouth are also still fighting on two other fronts as they have a place at Devon Twenty20 Finals Day at Exeter next Sunday (July 27) and next month they host Plymouth for a place in the Devon Senior Cup final.

Murray says of the fact his side are still fighting on three fronts: “It’s testament to the effort the lads are putting in on a consistent basis. Obviously the league is the top priority, but if you can’t claim that one you make sure you bag some of the other silverware on offer and we have a great chance of coming up trumps in either the Twenty20 or the Senior Cup, hopefully in both!”

Sidmouth keep the same squad that was on duty at Exmouth last Saturday for the trip to struggling Cornwood.
