The early season events at Wiscombe Park continue to be all about single-seater driver Ed Hollier who took his third victory from three events at the 500 Owners Association meeting on Saturday.

The Pilbeam MP62 pilot should caution during the damp morning practice runs but was able to use the power of his 1600 cc Suzuki Hayabusa power-plant to greater effect in the competitive runs during the afternoon. A first climb netted the former National Leaders Champion a time of 39.28 seconds which he was unable to match on his second visit to the testing 900 metre course.

Victory and the Harry Foster Trophy was on its way to Ottery St Mary however as Rupert Marks was unable to challenge in his massive McLaren M12 ex Can-Am circuit racer, a best climb of 48.31 giving the sports car driver the class win following Hollier’s elevation to the overall victory.

There were two divisions to the 500 Owners Association meeting however with a number of motorcycle classes running in this popular event. Local riders performed well and none more so than Sidmouth’s James Gibson who aboard his Honda repelled the challenge of Josh Ursell to take the honours in the up to 250 cc category. Gibson claiming the win with a best climb of 50.39 seconds.

Brampford Speke rider Tom Short was on good form in the 351 cc to 500 c.c. class, taking his 470 cc Honda to the win ahead of the hard charging Glyn Poole with his 500 cc Honda. Short was obliged to give best to his adversary on the first runs but turned the tables second time out to post the winning time of 44.65 seconds. A mere tenth of second clear of Poole.

This coming weekend sees the final spring meeting at Wiscombe Park with two championship meetings which will see a diverse and interesting car entry including road-going saloons through to single-seater racing cars in addition to motorcycles and sidecars.

Ed Hollier will be seeking an unprecedented five wins from five outings whilst Bridge Tyres and Wheels Point S championship leader Mark Shillaber (Ford Fiesta) will be on a quest to increase his lead in the series over Anthony Wright and his Audi A3. Current champion, Craig Moore shadows the duo in third with his Ford Cortina.

Gates open for the practice runs at 10am with the competitive event starting after a lunch break. The meeting should be completed by 5.30pm.
