Tipton St John 2, Culm United 0 Tipton played bottom of the League Culm United for the second time in a fortnight, in atrocious weather conditions, but actually played some of the best football they have played all year, writes Richard Williams.

They took the initiative from the off and Jody Freeman went close with a shot which went just high as early as the fourth minute.

On 16 minutes, left back, Kev Sexton had a long range shot deflected for a corner and six minutes later Tipton put together a fine move which culminated with Lee Strawbridge laying on a fine ball for Jody Freeman, who saw his effort saved by the Culm keeper.

On 36 minutes Sexton had another fine long range shot which was parried to Lee Strawbridge whose effort was blocked away for a corner.

Tipton came out in determined mood at the start of the second half and were rewarded after a couple of minutes when Jamie Connett hit a great cross to Strawbridge who saw the Culm keeper make a superb save from his header, pushing the ball out for a corner. From the resultant kick there was a scramble which saw the ball stick in the mud only for the quick thinking Sexton to force the ball into the net from close range to give Tipton a deserved lead.

Ten minutes later Nick Feeney saw his header cleared off the goal line by a defender.

Tipton continued to dominate but Culm remained resilient and on 69 minutes had their best chance of the game but were thwarted by a fine full length diving save by Jack Walker to tip the ball high past his left hand post.

On 73 minutes Tipton were awarded a free kick on their left which was floated into the box and another scramble ensued during which centre back Jake Freeman managed to bundle the ball over the line to double Tiptons lead.

Culm did not give up and nearly struck back three minutes later but Walker made another fine save from close range.

On 90 minutes Johnny Beer fired just wide and two minutes later Jody Freeman did the same.

Man of the Match for Tipton was Kev Sexton, who scored the all important opening goal, and in the first half in particular, created a number of good chances with a combination of fine crosses and through balls.
