Sidmouth Toucans are celebrating promotion from the Honiton Netball league after finishing second on Division Two of this season’s championship.
Toucans played their earlier this week winning 40-3 against Water Babes.
Louise Hastie, playing at wing defence was named the Player of the Match.
There was a potential blot on the Hastie performance when she accidently kicked the ball at her captain Rachel Darlami, but happily no damage was done!
The win was a tenth straight victory with the majority of them having been achieved in near freezing conditions. The consistency means the team will line up in the top division when the 2013/.14 campaign kicks off later this year.
The team is sponsored by local builders, Toucan Property Services Ltd, and has 17 players affiliated; enough for two teams, but, as always, injury, pregnancy and work commitments often means a manic-rush to put a team together for a midweek evening encounter.
The ladies also play in the Exmouth league which continues into May under captain Jo White.
Toucans are also grateful to Helen Terry, Jacqui Blackmore and Anna Rowson for organising and umpiring on their behalf.
The Toucans are looking forward to entering the handicapped Honiton summer league which starts next month, in hopefully warmer and drier conditions!
