Fluxton 4 Honiton Res 3
Rich Rapps has scored eight goals in four games from a defensive midfield berth, including a hat-trick against table-topping Honiton.
At 3-2 down, battling into a stiffening northerly gale and with two key men incapacitated by cramp, the objective spectators were to be found crammed onto an overflowing ‘we-are-top-of-the-league’ Honiton bandwagon. But, galvanised by the inspirational cries of Will Bidder – reduced to a stand and deliver role by aforementioned cramp – Fluxton came back and won.
Before half time, a goal from both Rapps brothers had been enough for a 2-1 lead, and there were more chances spurned. The wind caused a couple of problems early in the second period until the otherwise excellent Flux defence adjusted their parameters. Matt Sercombe made two superb point blank saves - as did Ali Buchan, without whose second half performance, FFC would not have won.
Fluxton are next in action at home to Culm on November 3 in the last 16 of the Intermediate Cup.
