Sidmouth 3rd XI 3 Teign A 6

TOP of the table Teign were surprised to go one down early in this South East District One encounter when Neville Evans popped the ball home when the visitors’ defence had failed to clear after a goalkeeper’s save.

They were soon on equal terms when their young, highly mobile centre forward lost his marker and shot home. They took the lead after a drag flick was saved, only for the ball to get trapped in goalkeeper John Goodwin’s pad flap and it fell out into the path of an attacker a yard from goal.

Goals rained in at both ends in the second half, Teign going further ahead when a shot hit the post and skidded across goal.

Two goals from Chris Olive were split by a Teign goal and Teign also got the last. But was it legal, asked Sidmouth, it being the first shot from a short corner?

Seconds later Simon Olive fed brother Chris who moved across the D and struck a cross shot home.

An accidental blow from Adrian Posta’s stick on Teign’s young centre forward enraged one of the visiting players who took great delight in firing home a fifth from a short corner.

Olive scored his second when he received a ball slipped to him after Steward Vincent received a short corner injection.

Teign completed the scoring when a fierce shot went into the roof of the next with Sidmouth questioning whether it was a legal goal, it being the first shot from a short corner.
