Sidmouth RFC U16 48, Okehampton 32
Through the age groups, these sides have had close games and this was no exception. Okehampton started superbly; forcing Sidmouth to fumble the kick-off, winning a perfect line-out and, with fluent passing, they put a winger free to crash over in the first minute.
This exciting play set the tone for the game and, although Sidmouth were playing catch-up through the first half, a score of 24 - 25 in favour of Okehampton meant it was all to play for. Sidmouth are working hard on dominating the start of the second half and, with concentration and teamwork, they began to get ahead. Charlie Cotton, who along with the Okehampton outside centre was the pick of the backs, scored four tries underlying his attacking threat.
In the forwards, Martin Welsford and Xenon Kearns both scored spectacular tries and the enthusiasm and athleticism of Charlie Wells brought him two well-deserved scores after excellent play by George Locke. The game was refereed by Louis Biggs, who is an oustanding young referee. He is professional, mature and authoritative and has the potential to go far.
