It was tough going early in the week in Sidmouth’s friendly matches with winning rinks hard to come by. The first visitors were Chudleigh, who had a convincing win by 84 to 64 with three out of four rinks, by Ron Cook.

Gordon Blood, Jane Painter, Peter Bates and John Greenaway managed a good score of 22 14. Well done.

In the next match, against a touring side from Dunstable, Sidmouth only managed two narrow wins out five rinks to give the visitors a comfortable 107-61 victory. Wilf Radbourn, Zena Johnson, Derek Limpus and Chris Hamer had the best result, 18-15 and Pat Ashton-Pritchard, June Thomas, Val Newnham and Norman Brimson scraped through 16-15.

The match against Bradninch changed to full mixed rinks on Saturday with Sidmouth taking the honours 66-58. Best winning rink Ken Bridgman, Carol Keating, Janice Quinn and Cliff Hewett 18-16. The following day we were away at Okehampton again returning a winning score of 70-37.

Scores were: Trevor Wells, Carol Keating, John Chew and Chris Rourke 25-13 Elaine Reed, Paddy Chew, John Greenaway and David Hughes 15-16.Christine Wells, Anita Mason, Janet Hughes and John Mason 30-8. Another big margin for John and his team.

On a high note, it was good news from Budleigh Salterton where the team of Ray Tallent, Ivan Robins, Bill Turner and skip Norman Brimson brought home the silver, finishing overall winners in the Victory Cup invitational.

The Exeter Over-60s triples League is down to the last two regulation matches with one of the closest finishes in Division 1. Although the winners are known, the scramble for places is hotting up as only eight points separate the last six teams trying to avoid the relegation zone. Sidmouth had to rearrange their scheduled game this week so have three matches yet to play. The B and C teams still find the going tough, both without points this week.
