MacMillan Cancer Relief is the Lady Captain’s chosen charity this year and on Wednesday all entry fees and other donations went to this good cause, writes Gill Paddon.
In glorious sunshine, 34 ladies took to the course to play a Bisque Par competition. Despite the name this has nothing to do with shellfish soup! It is a fun competition in which players choose where they use their handicap allowance rather than having to receive strokes on specified holes.
Such decision-making proved to be quite difficult, some ran out of holes before using all their strokes! Others kept cool heads and scored extremely well. Marian Thomas was the clear winner with plus five and was delighted to receive four bottles of wine from the ladies’ captain. Plus four was a popular score achieved by Yvonne Anning, Sylvia Roberts and Jane Renken who came second, third and fourth respectively and they all received wine.
Pashminas and jars of home made marmalade were sold, the proceeds of which boosted the total raised for the day.
