If SPECTATORS were thinking that the bottom two teams of Senior Five were going to produce a poor match then they were in for a shock. This was a great advert for the division.Ottery started the stronger having had some early chances with front runners Collins and Smith causing the Kentisbeare defenders problems with their well timed runs in behind the home team's back four.Smith had two one-on-ones with the keeper but the Falcons' player did well in saving. The back four of Czeres, Durkin, Knight and King were kept busy but together did well in keeping out the Kents' front runners.Laycock and captain Bridson competed in the middle of the park and between them sent the ball wide several times for Ford and Salter to deliver the early cross.Bull, in goal, deputising for the missing Dinsdale, made two crucial saves. Both sides were pushing to score but could not break down the defence, Ottery having played well enough to have been in the lead. After the break, both teams created chances but the defenders held firm. It was in the 70th minute when Kentisbeare broke the deadlock, the forward delivering a powerful shot which Bull had no chance of saving. If Ottery were going to get anything out of this match then they had to dig deep and get a quick reply but it was Kentisbeare who scored the second with 12 minutes to go - a long range shot hit a divet and went over Bull.Murrin replaced Ford and put Bridson up front to create three front runners and straight away Ottery were rewarded with a penalty when a defender was adjudged to have handled in the box. Bridson scored.Ottery, spurred on, worked hard for the second. When Laycock was tripped by a home defender, the Kentisbeare manager was yellow carded for disputing the referee's decision.Bridson stepped up to convert the penalty. With virtually the last kick of the game the ball was crossed in from the Ottery right and 16- year-old Salter half-volleyed with an unstoppable shot past the helpless keeper from just outside the six yard box.Ottery performed with strength and passion. Individually Collins, Bridson and all the back four had great games.Man Of The Match was Sam Czeres, 16.Sampford Peverell play Ottery St Mary on Saturday, 3pm.
