In front of a crowd of 110, Beer Albion made it two Devon Football League wins from two starts, defeating Thorverton 1-0 at the Furzebrake.
The Fishermen made a quick start, Taylor Rooke and Jake Rowe both going close before a foul on Rooke gave Tony Pinder the opportunity to score a deserved opener from the penalty spot.
Beer were enjoying their best period of the game with the Rooke brothers and Jacob Rowe prominent in Beer’s attacking play but the Thorverton goalkeeper was also in sparkling form.
Unable to add to the lead, Beer became increasingly frustrated and the second period was a disjointed affair. Yellow cards became a theme in the latter stages, both sides having players sent to the sin bin.
Despite the untidy finish, Beer had done enough and resume their defence of the Sportslighting Devon Premier Cup at Newton Abbot Spurs 2nds on Saturday.
