Devon football is mourning the sad loss of legendary broadcaster Gordon Sparks, affectionally known as Sparksy.
A devoted Plymouth Argyle fan, Sparksy was the voice for some of the great moments in recent Pilgrim history and was loved by supporters for his passionate and eloquent commentary. He also presented the BBC Radio Devon breakfast show for many years and a massive advocate for all the things we cherish in our beautiful county.
Sparksy was not just a hero of Plymouth, with his football connections spreading to East Devon, as his widow Heather is the daughter of Julia and the late Eric Manning, who was League secretary for the Devon & Exeter Football League for almost 40 years.
Sparksy loved his football, loved Argyle and loved Devon. He will be greatly missed by all and the deepest condolences of everyone in Devon sport goes out to his family and friends.
