It was a tricky week for selection at Sidmouth and Ottery Hockey Club, with availability an issue, particularly on the men’s side of the club.

Such was the shortage, that the men’s third team fixture had to be forfeited, with an automatic 5-0 defeat being recorded against North Devon 2.

In the meantime, the first-team took on Mendip 1 at home, but came out second best, losing 1-4. The second team travelled to Tiverton White Eagles 1 and claimed a point with a 2-2 draw.

The fourth team development side travelled to Isca 6 and again with limited numbers, were loaned three players to make for a more competitive match. In an entertaining game, the home side won 5-3.

On the women’s side of the club, the first team were comfortable winners, defeating Tiverton White Eagles 1 by 8-0 in their home fixture. Also playing at home, the second team claimed all the points when they beat Burnham-on-Sea 1 by 3-0.

The third team were narrowly beaten, losing away at Chard 2, 1-0, and the fourth team also lost but in their case at home against Exeter and Culm Vale Hornets 2. The final result was 1-4.
