Sidmouth produced a professional display to come back from Newton Abbot with all with a 4-1 victory and all three points. Credit to the groundsman, who had the surface in immaculate condition despite a torrid week of weather.

Sidmouth were without strikers Will Jenkins, Ashley Small and Joshua Wadham but were boosted by the acquisition of Louis Jagger Cane from Bideford.

The Vikings were a constant threat in the first half with the hard-working frontline of Cane, Luka Nickles and Tom Bray getting in behind the backline, while the hosts failed to test Matthew Rowland in the Sidmouth goal.

Sidmouth took the lead when Cane broke down the right and delivered a cross onto the head of Bray, who made no mistake from inside the box. Newton came back and forced Rowland into a save but again Sidmouth looked lively on the counter.

Spurs made a change at the break and came out punching, forcing a few corners and putting real pressure on the Sidmouth backline. They were rewarded in the 55th minute when James Moxon was fouled for a penalty converted by Stuart Morgan.

This seemed to kick Sidmouth back into life and Nathan Cooper rode a couple tackles before being fouled. From the resulting free-kick, the ball found its way to Isaac Furness. His clipped cross caused problems and Hesford capitalised by heading over the stranded keeper to put Sidmouth back in front.

It was soon 3-1 when Nickles continued to cause problems, chopping between two defenders and was fouled, giving the ref no option but to point to the spot. Danny Pym kept his composure and slammed the ball home to give Sidmouth.

Spurs would come again but every attack was shunned by a stubborn backline of Furness, Hesford, Colson and Salter. Liam Carey returned for his first appearance since August and should have been awarded a penalty when he rounded the keeper and was pushed, but the referee had other ideas.

In the 93rd minute, Harry Warren put the icing on the cake. More resolute defending saw the ball cleared and Warren played a one-two with Nickles before skipping two tackles and slamming the ball into the corner.

The Sidmouth Spar 1st Team Man of the Match was awarded to Matt Colson.
