More rain has meant reduced golf recently, but some competitive action survived the weather at Sidmouth GC.  

Last Sunday, the Winter League three-man team competition was a one to count format and coming out on top were Terry Jones, Martin Crockett and Kym White with 46 points. Martin Smith, Peter McGeer and Kevin Howe posted 45 to take second and Jon Evans, Stuart Ruffle and Dan Colson took third spot with 43.  

On Friday, the Stableford was won by Will Hastie, taking a rare day off with a solid 39 points. Russell Bess and Steve Nunn, both with 38, took the minor places. 

On Saturday, the second round of the Streatham Trophy went ahead and Andy Griffiths and Jim Edwards had the best score with 44 points. Moray Bosence and Kym White, who missed a very short putt to relegate them to second place, scored 43, beating Trevor Kerridge and Bill Hayes on countback. This leaves Moray and Kym leading after two rounds. 

Winning the Monday Stableford Division 1 with 39 points was Steve Crabb, beating Neil Holland by two points. In Division 2, Ben Hodgson posted an excellent 40 points, with Steve Nunn on 38 in second and Lester Willmington on 37 taking third. Jonty Clews won the Seniors comp with 42 points, ahead of Mark Laird and Steve Nunn both on 38. 

While the recent weather has been far from ideal, preparations are well underway for the 2023 season at Sidmouth, when the sun returns and golf is back to its best. 

The Sidmouth Golf Academy is recruiting for the 2023 year. The Academy combines tuition at the Thorn Park Golf Centre all hosted by the Club's PGA Coach, Duncan Arnold, with actual playing experience at Sidmouth Golf Club. 

At the end of the programme Academy graduates will receive a discounted club membership offer, the first part of a progression to Full membership of the Club for those who wish to continue their journey. 

The Academy has a maximum number of 40, tuition will be in groups of 5. The cost this year is once again £99.
