A frustrating late penalty denied Sidmouth Town all three points from a hard-fought Peninsula League clash at Plymouth Marjon.

After agreeing a new sponsorship deal with Smyths Toys UK, the Vikings got underway on the artificial surface at Marjon and made a deserved breakthrough five minutes before half-time.

A free-kick caused mayhem in the Marjon penalty area and Louis Jagger Cane kept his composure with a clever pass to Ashley Small, who calmly slotted Sidmouth into a deserved lead.

While the game continued to be scruffy for long periods, there was no question Sidmouth warranted their lead and they were just a minute away from victory when a needless penalty gifted Marjon with a fortunate draw.

Sidmouth face a daunting task this weekend, when they welcome in-form Brixham, who brilliantly marched into the next round of the FA Vase last weekend, and will now be looking to chase down league leaders Okehampton Argyle.

Ottery St Mary are out of the Devon Football League Cup after a 5-2 defeat at Paignton Saints. The Otters trailed 3-0 at half-time and, although they fought back with second-half goals from Nathan Hopkins and Riki Pitter, Paignton deserved their win.

Ottery travel to Thorverton this weekend and then enter the Christmas break with a visit from North Molton Sports club on December 17.

In the Devon & Exeter League Premier Division, a goal from Jack Kissane earned Ottery Reserves a point at home to Clyst Valley, a fantastic result against a side currently in second place behind runaway leaders Alphington. Ottery 2nds visit Crediton United 2nds on Saturday, while Sidmouth Town 2nds return to action at the University of Exeter.

In Division 4, Sidmouth Town 3rds turned on the style with a 5-1 demolition of Cheriton Fitzpaine. Louis Adey scored twice and there were further goals from Jake Boyland, Freddie King and CJ Abbott. The Vikings travel to Cullompton Rangers 2nds this weekend.
