Sidmouth and Ottery Hockey Club experienced the full range of results across eight teams and nine fixtures at the end of February.

On the women’s side of the club, the first team narrowly missed out in a seven-goal thriller, losing 4-3 in an away game against Cheddar 1. The second team were also involved in a high-scoring match at home to White Eagles 2, which finished 3-3.

The thirds missed out on any points, losing 1-2 against Taw Valley 2, and the fourth team development side, playing on Sunday, drew 0-0 away at Honiton Hornets.

On the men’s side of the club, the first team travelled to take on Bridgwater 1 but missed out on any points, losing 2-1, while the second team achieved a strong victory at home against West Dorset 1, winning 6-1.

The third team did not fare so well, losing 1-10 in a home fixture against Exeter and Culm Vale Hornets (ECVH). On a more positive note, the fourth team development side played in two away fixtures over the two days, drawing 0-0 with East Devon 4, followed by a 2-1 win over Cullompton.

The decent form was continued last weekend, as the women’s first team recorded two good wins, one in the league and the other in the Devon Cup.

First, they entertained Taw Vally 1 in a home fixture and claimed all the points with a 6-0 victory. Then on Sunday, Ocean City 1 from Plymouth were the visitors and on this occasion, the first team won 4-2. The result sees the team progress to the final of the Devon Cup.

The women’s second team travelled to Winscombe 2 and came away empty-handed, losing 4-0. The thirds had better fortunes and claimed the points with a 4-1 win against Exe 5. The fourth team development side recorded a 0-0 draw away to Chard 2.

On the men’s side of the club, the first team got a good win, beating Bristol & West 3, 3-1. The seconds were away at Yeovil and Sherborne 2, where they lost by the narrowest of margins, 1-0.

The third team travelled to Exeter to take on Isca 5 and lost 11-2. And playing at home against Torbay 3, the fourth team development side recorded a 0-0 draw.
