All club competitions are now completed at Sidmouth Bowls Club, ready for the finals to be played over three days, starting April 15.

The matches will be: Club Open Championship - Jill Bishop v Brian Smith; Ladies Championship - Jill Bishop v Carol Smith; Men’s Championship - Andrew Lowe v John Richards; Men’s Matchplay Singles - Andrew Lowe v Don Smith; Ladies Pairs - Sheila Faulkner & Debbie Caine v Carol Smith & Jan Jameson-Bates; Men’s Pairs - Brian Smith & Ian Dudley v John Mason & Scott Archer; Mixed Pairs - Carol Smith & Kevin Frickey v Jan Jameson-Bates & Tony Broughton; Joan Jeffery Trophy - Mary Meadows, Julie Wevill  & Sue Turner v Jan Jameson-Bates, Lynn Pike & Chrissie Leedham.

The Men’s Championship semi-final between John Richards and Brian Deam was an amazing match, with Brian leading most of the way. John then caught up and reached 20 all after 24 ends.

Brian was just holding shot with a wood slightly in front of the jack but John, with his final wood, drew to just past the jack for the shot and a place in the final.

Sidmouth men took three triples away to our friends and neighbours at Madeira BC,  Exmouth. They had a very good win overall 59- 33. However, one of the Sidmouth triples had an enormous win of 28 – 3 - congratulations go to David Parsons, Wilf Radburn and skip Martin Jenkins.

The ladies took three triples to play at Honiton. Although only winning on one rink, Sidmouth didn't do too badly with the overall score being Sidmouth 45 Honiton 54 . It was good to see several newer members playing away for the first time with us ‘oldies’.

I think they enjoyed the experience and hope they continue. Playing away really does improve your game. Our winning trio was Debbie Leeds, Debbie Caine and skip Jane Painter, 16 - 12.

Finally, a mixed home friendly against Chudleigh. Despite Sidmouth putting out pretty strong teams, Chudleigh managed a win on all three rinks. The final score was Sidmouth 38 Chudleigh 56. All Sidmouth rinks lost by similar amounts, but our rink with the least loss of just four shots were Lynn Pike, Anita Mason and skip Ron Peppin.
