The batting available to Tipton St John was too strong for visitors Erratics. They did remove opener Tom Jeacock for 5 when he deflected a ball to the slips, but they did not claim another wicket for 29 overs.

David Rowe, who was visiting Devon again from the USA, and Phil Tolley added 148 before they both retired, Tolley on 64 and Rowe for his first half century 68, scored off just 61 balls.

The onslaught did not end there as John Buckland added 63 from 30 balls on a good batting track and fast outfield. With Matt Davies (25) and David Thayre (20) contributing, Tipton posted their highest ever score of 289-5.

Tipton chipped away at the Erratics batting order and they slumped to 39-4 with both David Birch and Mark Channon claiming two wickets each. John Buckland also took two wickets, as Erratics crept to 133-9 at the close.

Mike Bennett, who played for Tipton in the late 1980s, is playing a few matches whilst back temporarily in the county. He took three good catches close to the wicket, but he could not match a brilliant one-handed diving effort by Buckland at silly mid-off to remove Erratics danger man Anuj Tiwari.
