Sidmouth Rugby Club has reopened its pitches in Sidford after fears of sewage contamination proved unfounded.
The pitches had been temporarily closed on Saturday (February 3) after club members noticed 'a significant increase in wetness and a noticeable odour'.
The issue was reported to South West Water who have now carried out extensive testing and reported that no sewage contamination was found. This has been confirmed by East Devon District Council's environmental team.
Today (Thursday, February 8) the club announced that the pitches are open for use again. It said work on the drainage of the pitches is still ongoing, but they are safe for public use.
Sidmouth Rugby Club has thanked South West Water for its prompt action in helping the club address this matter, and has also thanked the MP for East Devon, Simon Jupp, for his support and assistance.
