Outgoing captains at Sidmouth Golf Club have presented Devon Air Ambulance with donations totalling nearly £8,000.
Air ambulance volunteer Simon Card was invited to the club to take receipt of three cheques: 2023-24 men’s captain John Spiller-Jones raised £5,000 for the air ambulance during his year at the helm, with the total boosted by another £1,696.25 raised by 23 club members, including John, who took part in the 17th Sidmouth Rotary Swimathon in October 2023; in addition, erstwhile ladies’ captain Susan Hackett raised another £837.60 for the charity.
And it wasn’t just the air ambulance which benefitted from club members’ fundraising efforts – 1st Sid Vale Scouts section leader Sarah Fletcher was presented with a cheque for £100 raised via the swimathon. What is more, Sarah has been invited to bring a party of 20 scouts to the club in the summer so that they can try their hands at golf!
