Sidmouth Golf Club was drenched in early summer sunshine on Sunday as the Dartmoor league team welcomed Bigbury for their home rubber.

The sunshine matched the quality of golf with Sidmouth producing some impressive results.

  • Jones & Baranovs won 6 & 4
  • Patidar & Patidar won 7 & 5
  • Taylor & Hodgson won 6 & 5
  • Roberts & Davies won 4 & 3
  • Bosence and Anderton match halved

A scintillating 4.5 v 0.5 for the home team who continued their fine form and positive results.

The next match is away to Dartmouth on Sunday, May 26.

Sidmouth Herald: Dudley Taylor

During the week, the seniors had played and won two home matches, against Yeovil 5&1 on Tuesday, and Axe Cliff 3.5 to 2.5 on Thursday.

The latter seemed to hinge on some excellent putting from the Axe Cliff captain and some missed putts from Sidmouth.

On Wednesday, the Emerton Court team took on Teignmouth at home in the first leg of Round 1.

Due to several unfortunate circumstances, Sidmouth fielded a new look team featuring several first-timers, but still managed to win by 4 matches to 1, giving them a fighting chance when they visit Teignmouth this week.

The only loss was a tale of determination as the home pair of John Cowan and Martyn Cross had gone 4 down after only 8 holes.

They then regrouped, winning the next five holes to go ahead, only to concede defeat on the last after some toughly fought holes.

Weekend results:

Sidmouth Jewellers Friday Stableford winners were; Ben Hodgson 39, Mike Knight 37 on countback from Will Hastie

A curtailed 4BBB pairs competition on Saturday saw the early players fair better as the heavens opened and rain and thunder forced players off the course later in the day.

Winning pair was Paul Charlton & Chris Long with 41 on countback from David Ash & Brian Eastell.

Valdis Baranovs & Jamie Souttar took third with 39.
