It was a mixed week for Sidbury Cricket Club with a win in the league and a loss in the cup.
In the Devon League, Sidbury Cricket Club had a hard-fought win over Alphington.
On an intensely sunny day, Sidbury won by 62 runs, even though they started with only 11 players and lost Toby Whitfield part way into the second innings.
Sidbury batted first, with opening batsmen Will Bidder and Simon Rowe making a solid start.
Their partnership ended when Rowe was controversially dismissed.
Alex Paget joined Bidder, and they created a stand of 79.
Despite a few tense moments, Toby and Jon Whitfield, and Damien Armes, helped Sidbury reach a score of 193 for 6.
Sidbury's fielding underwent a significant challenge when Alphington was reduced to six for two after just eight overs, thanks to excellent bowling from Armes and Paget.
Despite an injury to Steve Crick, Sidbury held their defence, reducing Alphington to 131 for nine and winning the match.
The very next day, Sidbury faced further challenge in the T20 Tidball Cup.
Having made it to the semi-finals for the first time, they faced Plymouth on a scorching day.
Plymouth initially made a good start, but a spell of impressive bowling from Sidbury's captain, Paget, and Armes put Sidbury back in the game.
Plymouth finished their innings at 162 for nine.
Sidbury responded with a determined chase led by overseas signing, Will Bidder.
Despite losing three partners quickly, his partnership with Simon Rowe, and a late attack from Armes, helped Sidbury win the semi-final with nine balls remaining.
However, Sidbury's dream of securing the Tidball Cup faded when they faced Filleigh in the final.
Wearing expensive black kits and showing impressive batting form, Filleigh seized control of the match.
Despite Sidbury opening batsman Simon Rowe (51) and Josh Reed (19) building a reasonable start, the team fell short, finishing at 142 for nine.
In stark contrast, Filleigh's openers (Saker and Prideaux) made a record tally of 148 in less than nine overs.
This outstanding batting display left Sidbury bowlers struggling, and clinched the title for Filleigh.
