SIDMOUTH Town leapt to sixth place in the Devon and Exeter Premier League table after beating Exeter University 3-0. Manager Paul Ashford said last week that his side were looking forward to playing the students who have no 'over-hefty tackles or verbals but just play football', as he believed their style would suit the Vikings. He was proved right. "We have a good side who want to learn and get better and it's all about not being in fear of the opposition. All the players have been picked on ability and they have to realise that," he added. But he is not getting carried away with things. He believes they can keep progressing but must be consistent. He said: "The league table doesn't lie. We have lost games we could have won and to progress in the league you just can't do that." He was delighted that Sidmouth didn't concede a goal. Captain Chris Duchenski scored two , one beautifully set up by Andy Thompson. Wes Torr, who has been playing in defence, has been moved up to the centre of midfield to make the most of his work ethic and he scored a 'classic' goal. With four 17-year-olds boosted by experienced players, Ashford is hoping for little change for tomorrow's match away to Wellington.
