The ladies’ 2nd team shared four goals with hosts Yeovil and Sherborne II and what made the result all the more impressive was that, prior to the game, the home side sported an unbeaten home record, while SOHC travelled to Yeovil having not won away all season and banked two points from their first five away games!
Karen Dutton opened the scoring with a clinical finish, but the home side hit back to restore parity before Frankie Forsyth restored the SOHC lead with a composed finish in a one-on-one with the goalkeeper.
The Yeovil-based side again levelled and then threw everything they had at bagging a third goal, but they were held at bay by some superb defending, particularly from Mary Ackland, along with some impressive pressing play by Diana Dormer. Great midfield work from Rachel Ward, Anna Moroz and Lucy Gosling, was complemented by an impressive debut from Lydia Gammon.
Mary Ackland was named Player of the Match with her superb contribution, which included the ‘keeping quiet’ of the home team’s star striker!”
On Saturday (January 20), SOHC ladies’ II entertain Winscombe II at Ottery St Mary with a 12.30pm start time. Victory for SOHC will see them climb above Winscombe and exit the bottom two berths in the Sedgemoor Division Two table. However, when the sides met for the first time this season, Winscombe took the points with a narrow 2-1 win.
