This year the Grandfather’s Cup attracted a field of 34 grandads eager to snatch the prize so that they could impress their grandchildren, writes John Rockey.

It looked for a while that last year’s winner Vernon Ruffle would repeat his victory.

However, his 35 points were eventually only good enough for third place.

This year the winner was Brian Alabaster with his 36 points who beat of the strong challenge of Carl Sheehan whose 35 points were just good enough to take second place on a count back.
