As promised by the weather-men it was a hot, sunny day down at Primley which was going to make Sidmouth's job harder facing the tough opposition of West Wilts who were coming to this game on the back of a 14-1 win over nearby Ottery Crickets the previous week.

With some regular players being unavailable due to work and family responsibilities, holes were left in Sidmouth's starting eleven.

There was a welcome return for Charles Plowden making his seasonal debut.

With West Wilts looking positive from the start the visitors pushed hard into the host's half which soon resulted in the visitors scoring two early goals in relatively quick succession.

With Sidmouth realising that this was going to be a long match at this rate, the seasoned members of the team soon picked up on the opposition's weaknesses, with good play between old boys Scott Rowson, Graham Pidgeon and Andrew Mapson allowing the ball to be taken out wide and worked in well, two goals followed for the home side. This proved to the visitors that the game was not the formality they had envisaged.

After some top saves from Jon Hill in goal kept Sidmouth in the game, the visitors did edge ahead putting one past him before half time. Fortunately, there was still time enough for Sidmouth to grab another goal to make the score tied 3-3 at half time.

Sidmouth's two attackers of Nick Wade and George Powell were very closely marked out of the game it fell to the midfield to score goals. With middle men Byron Fitzgerald and Man of the Match Andrew Mapson getting the three in the first half, it was a Sidmouth defender who got the fourth with a well-struck strike during from a short corner from team captain Ian Brown putting Sidmouth in the lead.

With ten minutes to play, Sidmouth looked sure to take points from this encounter. However in an incident the umpire decided was a reckless tackle from Powell, his words of disappointment at the officials’ decision earned him a yellow card which meant sitting the rest of the game on the sideline.

The visitors capitalised, scoring three more before the final whistle

Hopefully, Sidmouth will return from this week's long-distance away trip to Hereford with some well-deserved points.
