Everyone associated with Ottery St Mary Cricket Club will be hoping that the weather gods smile upon Salston Field as the club stages a week of varied and exciting events to celebrate the 150th anniversary of its founding.

Everyone associated with Ottery St Mary Cricket Club will be hoping that the weather gods smile upon Salston Field as the club stages a week of varied and exciting events to celebrate the 150th anniversary of its founding.The programme begins on Sunday with the annual club six-a-side tournament and continues on Monday evening with a T20 match between an Exeter FM XI and a Jimmy Giles invitation XI. The former Ottery CC fast bowler and Exeter City FC stalwart has assembled a side containing a number of former City players, including recently retired striker Steve Flack and legendary full back Scott Hiley, who plied his trade in the Premiership with clubs including Manchester City and Southampton between his two spells with the Grecians. The game commences at 6pm. A barbecue will be sizzling away, the bar will be open and spectators are more than welcome.On Tuesday evening the splendidly refurbished clubhouse will be hosting a sports quiz featuring 20 teams representing local cricket clubs, other sports clubs, local businesses etc. Events continue on Thursday with an afternoon match between Devon Over-50s and an Ottery St Mary XI (1-30pm start) whilst on Friday, at 11-30am, an Otters' XI face the Devon Dumplings team which comprises players drawn from clubs throughout the county.The highpoint of the week takes place on Saturday evening following the 1st XI's home Devon League fixture against Hatherleigh. The 150th Anniversary Celebration Ball will be staged at Salston Field in a marquee. The evening will include Pimms or fruit punch from 7-30pm, a high quality buffet dinner (served at 8-30pm), dancing to a live band and a disco and, of course, the bar will be open until late! There will also be a grand draw with a range of excellent prizes including items of sporting memorabilia. Tickets for what is sure to be a wonderful evening are strictly limited to 150 and are available for only £22-50 per head.
