Under-15 cricket Sidmouth v Axminster. Sidmouth 74 for 6 Axminster 72 for 7: Sidmouth played their last scheduled league match, against Axminster, on Monday, won the toss and elected to field.

Greg Chaplin opened the bowling, taking an early wicket in the first over and continued strongly, even after receiving a ball to the knee, leaving a nasty looking bruise. He took a second wicket and finished his fourth over conceding only eight runs, with Ashley Caldwell bowling rapidly from the other end also taking two wickets.

Sidmouth were looking comfortable and Tyran Le Roux followed this up with a wicket maiden, going on to concede only three runs in his three overs.

Charlie Miles replaced Tyran, keeping up the excellence from that end also with a wicket maiden and finished with two wickets for just one run from his two overs - 12 runs from that end from nine overs cost five wickets!

Charlie Miles, Johnny Watkins, Alec Richardson and Tyran Le Roux each took a catch.

Being in a strong position, Sidmouth shared the bowling around with overs from Josh Reed, Alec Richardson, Jack Hodge and Matt Hill.

Axminster closed on the rather low 72 for 7 off 20 overs.

Top scorer for Axminster was Steven Smith-Wild.

Axminster nevertheless responded in determined mood, with Ben Fuzzard and Alex Rockett combining to knock Sidmouth back by taking five wickets in their eight overs.

With Ben Fuzzard taking a fine driven catch off his own bowling, and Matt Wynn also holding on to a strike, the game was back on.

And when the next first change bowlers, Aiden Thompson, who took a wicket with his first ball (Sidmouth six down!), and Michael Wakely conceded only six runs off his four overs, the game seemed to be slipping away from Sidmouth.

With the faster bowlers having completed their damaging overs, Greg Chaplin (26) and Ashley Caldwell (6), in partnership, played very sensibly with a low target to reach, bringing Sidmouth home with a comfortable win on 74 for 6 off 17.3 overs, completing a fine night's cricket for the pair of them and they were applauded off the field by their team mates.
