Axe Cliff lift East Devon Trophy at Sidmouth

The East Devon Trophy is keenly contested every year by four clubs; Sidmouth, East Devon, Honiton and Axe Cliff, writes George Carr.
Sidmouth being hosts this year were favourites to win as the home team always are and usually do.
With ten four-balls comprising one player from each team with an individual stableford format and six scores to count it is a test of nerves for everyone playing. Sidmouth’s Steve Milton, in fine form of late, posted the best individual score of 35 points keeping Honiton’s Spencer Macklin at bay only on countback with Spencer’s Dad and Sidmouth B Team Captain Colin Macklin a point behind on 34. Alas dear readers it is the team score that wins the East Devon Trophy much prized as it is by all the clubs involved. In spite of the flying start provided by Milton and Macklin no other home player got into the thirties and it was a delighted Geof Greenslade, the Axe Cliff captain, who hoisted the East Devon Trophy for 2013 pipping the home team by a painful four points with a winning total of 179; well played Axe Cliff.
