On Saturday, the Aylmer Cup was the trophy to be won, played under a medal format, writes John Barnard.

The course has changed over the past week; much wetter so easier to fire into the greens but playing longer with less run on the ball and the rough more difficult to play from.

Making light of the conditions was Martin White, who has hit a fine vein of form over the last few weeks. On Saturday, he went round in net 61 to win convincingly.

Four birdies and only one dropped shot meant an impressive looking scorecard and a handicap reduction to one-point-six exact, a great achievement!

He needed to play well as Mark Thomas came in with a net 63. Three birdies in the last six holes was the key to his round and Mark ran out of holes when in fine form. In third place was Mr Over Golfed, Chris Roberts, also with a net 63, but he couldn’t match Mark’s blistering final few holes.
